ABOUT BRUCE

Welcome to my cyberspace world! I can best be described as a current events and political junkie, in particular for issues involving the law and public policy. My short life history begins in St. Louis where attended school and then West Alton Missouri where I spent my summers. This was really the best of both worlds. I learned to love the city and everything that there is to do and then spend my summers on the Mississippi river learning to everything that goes with life away from the city. I even became pretty good at shoeing a horse. After high school I went to work fulltime and after two years headed to Cape Girardeau where I completed my degree in political science. I'm even one class short of another BS degree in Economics. During my freshman year I found my future wife and married her the summer of my junior year. After graduation I relocated to Kansas City, Missouri where I attended UMKC Law School. Because of a major family challenge at the time I elected to move closer to home. Tonya and I moved back to Cape Girardeau, where I completed a graduate degree in public administration and began work for Southeast Missouri State University. I have served in a variety of positions at Southeast and I recently began work on my doctorate in Education Leadership and Policy Analysis in the summer of 2005. In the spring of 2005 I began my latest challenge serving as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Political Science. I teach an introductory class for the American Political System and a first year student seminar that assists students with their acclimation to the university.
Southeast Missouri State University is located in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Cape Girardeau has much of the charm of a small town with some of the benefits of a large city.
My
wife Tonya is also a graduate of
Southeast Missouri State University, where she majored in Business Education.
She is currently teaching computers and business at
Oran High School. I owe a great deal of my
successes to her behind the scenes efforts and support. She and I had a
beautiful daughter, Sierra
Bethany, on April 1, 2002, and she has been a wonderful addition to our
lives. Our second child, Alexis Emily is due at the beginning of May 2006.
Besides politics and working for various political campaigns. I also have a diverse number of hobbies. I enjoy mountain biking, golf, tennis, paintball, and basketball. I also love to read non-fiction. I would recommend my last two books:
America's Constitution : A Biography by Akhil Reed Amar or A History of G-d; The 4,000 year quest of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam by Karen Armstrong. Other than my family, friends, and my few hobbies, I tend to be a workaholic.
I would be remiss if I did not mention my role model in life (bottom right of
picture). Milton Freant is a proud World War II veteran and my Grandfather. He
taught me a great deal about life and how to enjoy the little challenges life
presents all of us with. I owe a great deal of my success in life to the example
that he set for me! Unfortunately there is one lesson in life that we all learn
sooner or later. On October 24 at 10:53 a.m. Milton Freant passed away. He will
be missed by many, but few more than by me!
