 PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

 

Assistant Director for Facilities, Office of Residence Life
Southeast Missouri State University                                                                        June 2000- Present

Duties: 

Managed all facility aspects of $120 million in Residence Life facilities, home to 2,600 residential students.  Management of these facilities included managing an annual budget in excess of $3 million for operations and yearly renovation and construction projects ranging from $250,000 to $3 million dollars annually.  Additional duties included the management of summer camps and conference programs for 6,000 participants each summer, development and implementation of policy decisions for the physical management of the residence halls, and communication of facility issues to students and other University community members.

Specific Responsibilities:

¨  Coordinated with Facilities Management, Paric Construction, and Jacobs Facilities on the construction of a $13 million, 85,000 square feet new residence hall.

¨  Developed ten-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) for all the residential facilities.  Plan included financing plan and schedule of major maintenance for each year through 2010.  Coordinated a complete revision of the ten-year plan two years after its original publication.  The revision included updated facility information and a new pro forma outlining the Office of Residence Life budget. 

¨  Developed and managed the daily activities of leased properties, including the scheduling of maintenance work and decision making on physical improvements to the properties. 

¨  Provided project management services for physical improvements to the residence halls, including inspection of work, verifying compliance with prevailing wage law, and contractor scheduling. 

¨  Coordinated service and repair needs for food service vendor, including preventive maintenance and cleaning. 

¨  Responsible for maintaining over $2 million in Residence Life inventory, including assessing condition of inventory and maintaining documentation.  Organized and managed the annual inventory of all items on the Office of Residence Life inventory. 

¨  Responsible for planning all aspects of opening day for 5,000 students, parents, and friends, including traffic planning, facility scheduling, staffing, and vendor recruitment.

¨  Supervised professional and paraprofessional staff in the management of the residence halls, including new staff training and on-going training programs.

¨  Selected, trained, and managed the housing arrangements for the University Summer Camps and Conference program.  Approximately 6,000 camp participants stay in the residence halls over the summer.    

Hall Director, Office of Residence Life

Duties: 

Responsible for the total functioning of the Residence Hall as an educational environment consistent with the academic and educational mission of the University.  Management of the residence hall included the selection, training, and supervision of building staff, advising hall government, and management of the Customer Service Desk.

Specific Responsibilities:

¨  Supervised staff of 20, including Community Advisors, Computer Technicians, and Service Desk employees.

¨  Worked with students on individual developmental issues and made referrals as appropriate. Provided assistance to students in developing their interests and abilities.

¨  Development and implementation of a residence hall programming effort based upon the SHADES model. 

¨  Responsible for the enforcement of Residence Life and University policies, including the adjudication and sanctioning for violations of Residence Life and University policies.

¨  Responsible for on-call and emergency duty coverage for the campus residence halls.

    Assistant Store Manager                                                                        Platte City, MO

Duties: 

Responsible for the merchandising, planograms, displays, unit and pricing accuracy, and supervision of associates in Apparel, Home Fashions, Jewelry, Cosmetics, Consumables, Electronics, Sporting Goods and General Merchandise areas of the store.  Provided rotating supervision of all store operations, including implementation and maintenance of corporate programs, merchandising, customer service, financial and human resource management

Specific Responsibilities:

¨  Responsible for sales over $6 million dollars across eight departments; total store sales were $21 million. 

¨  Responsible for the setup, maintenance, and management of seasonal products, including holiday, lawn and garden, and back to school departments.  

¨  Provided supervision for three department managers and approximately 20 departmental employees. 

¨  Developed and arranged physical merchandise layouts for softline departments.

       Project Upward Bound Head Resident
          Southeast Missouri State University                                                                           May 1996-August 1996

Duties: 

Responsible for the summer residential program designed to encourage and motivate disadvantaged high school students to pursue collegiate education.  Program focused on developing the skills and attitudes necessary for success beyond high school.  The program focused on socio-economically disadvantaged youth comprised of sophomore, junior, and senior high school students from the Southeast Missouri region.

Specific Responsibilities:

¨  Developed and presented training program for Upward Bound residential staff.

¨  Planned educational trips and weekend activities, including a weeklong trip to visit colleges and universities in the
St. Louis, Missouri area.

¨  Served as interim Counselor, including responsibility for budget, contact with parents, and verification of medical and participation records.
